How to buy a golf simulator without overpaying

Five steps: measure the room, pick the launch monitor, size the rest of the bay, choose software, then shop the same model across sellers. Prices on the same launch monitor can differ by hundreds or thousands of dollars between sellers.

1. Measure the room

Ceiling height, width and depth decide which launch monitors work. Run the room check before anything else.

2. Pick the launch monitor

It’s the biggest decision and usually the biggest cost. Decide radar vs camera from your room, then check whether the features you want need a subscription.

3. The rest of the bay

  • Enclosures, screens & nets: Frames, impact screens and nets that stop the ball and carry the picture.
  • Hitting mats: Where your joints meet the ground. Turf, foam and strike strips, from practice mats to commercial-grade.
  • Projectors: Short-throw projectors that fill an impact screen from behind or above the golfer without casting a shadow.
  • Simulator software: Courses, ranges and games. One-time licences and yearly plans, and which launch monitors each one runs on.

4. Software

Check which course and range software runs on your launch monitor and whether it’s a one-time licence or a yearly plan. Compare software.

5. Shop the same model across sellers

Every product page lists each seller’s price for that exact model, cheapest first.

  • Subscription cost per year added to the total.
  • Software runs on your launch monitor.
  • Projector throw distance matches your screen and room.
  • Same model checked across every seller, including shipping and returns.

FAQ

How much does a golf simulator cost?

Launch monitors alone run from $200 to $25,495 in our catalog. A complete home setup usually adds an enclosure or net, a mat, a projector and software.

How much room do I need?

As a rule of thumb, about 9–10 ft of ceiling, 10–15 ft of width and 13–16+ ft of depth, depending on the launch monitor type. Use our room check, then confirm against the maker's spec.

Radar or camera?

Radar units sit behind the golfer and need ball flight before the screen, so they want a deeper room. Camera (photometric) units sit beside or above the ball and suit shorter rooms.

Do launch monitors need a subscription?

Some do. Of the 37 priced launch monitors we track, 1 list a required subscription for full features. Each product page says so.

Is it cheaper to buy a package or parts?

Sometimes. Packages save matching effort and are occasionally discounted; buying parts lets you spend more on the launch monitor. Compare both in the budget finder.
